Maximilianeum Munich
Extension of the Bavarian Landtag (parliament building)

1992 – 1994

At the rear of the old Maximilianeum, the domicile of the Bavarian parliament in Munich, two extension buildings contain additional offices for members of the parliament. Two L-shaped new buildings are attached to the volume of the wings built in the 1960s and follow the logic of the old building with its orthogonal arrangement of the symmetric axes of the buildings within the round enclosing wall.
The axis of Max-Planck-Strasse is kept open to create a frame for the central projection of the old Maximilianeum, which remains the effective centre of the ensemble's appearance. The two eastern facades of the new construction have an independent and contemporary design, dominated by the double climatic facade, which has large reddish wall-type fittings to match the dimensions of the old building.
